The federal Government has no authority to determine Emirship dispute or to appoint or enthrone anyone as Emir -Human Rights Lawyer, Inibehe
Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong has cautioned the federal government against interfering in the Kano Emirship struggle, stating that the central government has no authority to appoint or enthrone an Emir.
This comes after Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II was reinstated as the Emir of Kano, following a bill passed by the State House of Assembly. Effiong, in a post on his X handle, urged President Bola Tinubu to halt the escalating tensions in Kano.
His remarks were in response to a statement from Kano’s Police Commissioner, Muhammad Usaini Gumel, and other security officials, who pledged to uphold a court order preventing the reinstatement of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II to maintain peace in the state.
The federal government is suspected of interfering in what should be a state matter, especially after Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf ordered the arrest of deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero. Effiong advised against allowing partisan politics to destabilize the state.
He said: “The federal Government has no authority to determine Emirship dispute or to appoint or enthrone anyone as Emir.
“It is the responsibility of the King Makers and the Governor to do so.
“President Tinubu should urgently halt the reign of madness that’s unfolding in Kano.
“Do not set the state on fire because of partisan politics.”
