President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima to now pay Tollgate fees at the airport
President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima will now be required to pay tollgate fees when using airports in Nigeria, as per the Federal Executive Council’s (FEC) decision. The approval was granted following a memorandum presented by the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, highlighting revenue loss due to airport users’ exemptions.
Initially, the memoranda proposed exemptions only for the president and vice president. However, Tinubu intervened, insisting that both of them should be included among those subject to the tollgate fees.
Keyamo, addressing the media after the FEC meeting, expressed regret over the fact that affluent Very Important Persons (VIPs) who should be paying have been exempted from fees. He emphasized the need to end the practice of only charging tollgate fees to lower-income individuals.
