As long as APC remains in power this culture of impunity will worsen – Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour reacts to claims of thugs seizing individuals’ phones and extorting money from them in Lagos
Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the former presidential candidate representing the Labour Party in Lagos state, has expressed concern that the prevailing culture of impunity in the state will only deteriorate as long as the ruling party maintains its grip on power.
Rhodes-Vivour made these remarks in response to reports of thugs seizing individuals’ phones and extorting money from them on the streets of Lagos.
Filmmaker Biodun Stephen shared a video on social media on Thursday, April 4, highlighting the alarming presence of these thugs in Lagos state. They brazenly confiscate phones from residents and only return them after receiving a ransom.
Reacting to this, Gbadebo said; ‘’This is a creation of the political elite in Lagos that have enshrined a culture of violence and impunity. These thugs are armed by politicians and used to win elections, after which the citizens are left at their mercy.
What is worse is that the extractive and discriminatory policy of the APC has worsened youth unemployment and poverty, forcing many into drugs and criminality.
As long as this party remains in power, this culture of impunity will worsen. They have no intention to build a modern economy that works for everyone but a feudal system where they can share palliatives to communities who kiss the ring.
There must be collective action in rooting out these parasitic politicians who leave behind chaos instead of prosperity.”
