Wike vows to end Open grazing in the FCT

On Wednesday, March 6, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, affirmed his commitment to ending open grazing in Abuja.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the movement of cattle within the city, Wike assured residents of plans to halt the practice of cattle roaming freely within the city center.

During a meeting with the Belgian Ambassador to Nigeria, Daniel Bertrand, in Abuja, Wike reiterated his determination to address the issue. He stated that he had engaged in extensive discussions with various relevant stakeholders to tackle the problem of cattle roaming in the city.

Wike emphasized the necessity of employing multifaceted approaches to combat insecurity in the FCT, highlighting the administration’s efforts to defeat criminal activities.

Furthermore, he mentioned the administration’s intensified partnership with private-sector transportation entities to enhance security in the city.

In his remarks, Ambassador Daniel Bertrand raised concerns about the presence of cattle on Abuja’s streets and expressed satisfaction upon learning about the minister’s efforts to combat the issue. He also expressed interest in facilitating investments from his country to collaborate with the FCTA in the development of the nation’s capital.
