Secondary school teachers in Taraba must have master’s degree- Taraba Governor, Kefas

Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has announced that a master’s degree is now the minimum academic requirement for those aspiring to teach in the state’s secondary schools. The governor shared his government’s educational plans during a dinner with journalists in Jalingo on January 7.

Emphasizing that primary school teachers should hold at least a university first degree, he indicated that the current reliance on the National Certificate of Education (NCE) as the minimum qualification for primary school teachers would soon be phased out.

Additionally, Governor Kefas mentioned the reintroduction of History as a subject in the basic education curriculum, starting from primary schools in the state.

Kefas said; “We are going to reintroduce History studies in our primary and secondary schools in the state to lay a solid foundation for accelerated development.

“In no distant time, primary school teachers in the state must be first degree holders while secondary school teachers must have a minimum of master’s degree to enhance the state’s education quality.

“This is the main reason we have slashed the school fees for undergraduates in the state university. We must secure a good future for our children. Our free education policy is not a joke and anybody who stands on the way to achieving this will be crushed.”

The governor called on journalists to monitor the implementation of the state government’s free education policy in primary and secondary schools to ensure that all the school administrators were doing the right thing.
