UK government initiates plan to deport international students who fail to achieve good grades

The UK government is considering barring international students from receiving two-year graduate visas if they fail to achieve good grades. The Migration Advisory Committee is reviewing this as part of a plan to reduce net migration. Over 98,000 students were granted these visas in the year to June 2023, raising concerns about potential misuse as a route to work, especially in low-skilled jobs.

The MAC is exploring whether there should be grade requirements, restrictions on university choices, or limitations on types of jobs and activities for these visa holders. Additionally, the care worker visa route is reported to be abused, with instances of exploitation, fraud, and forced payment by foreign workers for rent or visa services.
