Court grants Emefiele N300m bail

Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has been granted bail by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama. The bail amount is set at N300 million. In the ruling delivered on Wednesday, Justice Hamza Muazu specified that Emefiele must provide two sureties, both possessing landed property in the Maitama District of the FCT.

Emefiele was not present in court during today’s proceedings, as he had been remanded at Kuje Prison the previous week. It is noteworthy that another FCT High Court, two weeks prior, had ordered his release in a fundamental human rights suit he initiated against the federal government.

The court has adjourned the case until November 28 for the commencement of the trial.
