A Nigerian graduate has taken the drastic step of burning all his certificates. The individual, an alumnus of Ajayi Crowther University, bemoaned the apparent futility of his education, citing nearly 14 years since his graduation without securing a job relevant to his academic qualifications.

He elaborated on the irony that the jobs he managed to secure did not require him to showcase his educational credentials. Furthermore, he highlighted the competitive nature of job acquisition, revealing that in many instances, he had to contend for positions with individuals who lacked formal education.

“What is the essence of a certificate when I’m dragging jobs with illiterates,” he asked.

“Even to be president now, you can forge certificate, ” he said.

He concluded that people are better off learning a skill or trade.

He then proceeded to set all his certificates – from primary school to university and NYSC certificates – ablaze.
