Duoye Diri declared winner of Bayelsa state Governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday declared the current Governor, Senator Douye Diri, as the winner in the state governorship election conducted on Saturday.

The announcement was made by the State Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Kuta Farouk, at the Prof. Mahmood Yakubu Media Centre in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Governor Diri secured victory in six out of the eight local government areas in the state, with his primary contender, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC), winning only two LGAs.

The PDP candidate claimed victory in Kolokuma/Opokuma, Ogbia, Yenagoa, Sagbama, Nembe, Ekeremor, Brass, and Southern Ijaw, while APC’s Chief Sylva emerged victorious in Nembe and Brass LGAs.
