Driver fleeing LASTMA officials, kill two LAWMA sweepers in Lagos
On Monday, November 12, a driver attempting to escape arrest by traffic officials tragically caused the death of two road sweepers on the Gbagada-Oshodi Expressway in Lagos State.
Reports indicate that the officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were trying to apprehend the driver for a traffic violation. Instead of submitting to arrest, the driver opted to flee. During the attempt to escape, the driver collided with two members of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) who were stationed at their duty post by the roadside, resulting in their immediate demise.
Security personnel, including the police, swiftly arrived at the scene and employed tear gas to disperse the protesters and restore order.
Meanwhile, LAWMA has officially confirmed the death of the two sanitation workers in a statement.
