DSS ignores court order, returns Emefiele to custody

Despite the Federal High Court in Lagos issuing an order, the Department of State Services (DSS) has disregarded it and returned the suspended governor of the Central Bank, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, to custody.

Earlier, the court had granted bail to Emefiele after he pleaded not guilty to two counts of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo approved the bail and ordered that Emefiele be remanded in prison until he fulfilled the bail conditions.

However, conflicting actions arose between officials of the secret police and the Nigerian Correctional Services over who would transport Emefiele from the court.

Recently, officials of the DSS successfully took the suspended governor of the apex bank away from the court, despite the earlier court order granting him bail.
