Breaking: DCP Abba Kyari granted bail

DCP Abba Kyari has been granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges related to money laundering. Kyari is however still facing a primary charge of cocaine trafficking for which he has been denied bail.

Hamza N. Dantani, one of Kyari’s lawyers, shared the update regarding the court granting bail on the money laundering charges on his Facebook page on Thursday.

The trial revolves around the seizure of $61,400 cash and a 25kg parcel of cocaine, which are believed to have been used as a bribe to influence National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operatives. Kyari is accused of attempting to bribe a senior NDLEA officer with $61,400 to prevent the testing of a portion of the seized cocaine, which was linked to two individuals arrested for drug trafficking.

Additionally, Kyari is under investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States of America in connection with a fraud case involving Instagram celebrity Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi.

Kyari has been in detention since February 14, 2022, after being declared wanted by the NDLEA over alleged drug-related connections.
