Allow Niger Delta control their resources – Duoye Diri tells FG
Governor of Bayelsa state, Duoye Diri has requested the federal government, urging them to grant the people of the Niger Delta region control over their resources in exchange for tax contributions.
Diri made this plea during the 15th memorial celebration of Chief Melford Okilo, the former governor of old Rivers State, on Tuesday, July 4.
He emphasized that in other parts of the country, states are given the authority to govern their resources in return for tax payments.
The Governor also paid tribute to Okilo, describing him as a patriotic figure who played a significant role in shaping his political career. Diri mentioned that he followed in Okilo’s footsteps, becoming involved in Ijaw activism and gaining awareness of the injustices that Okilo consistently spoke out against and aimed to rectify.
