When I came to Imo State, it was in the cemetery; I exhumed the body – Uzodinma

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has asserted that the state was in dire condition when he assumed office on January 15, 2020.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, June 14, Uzodimma stated,

“When I came to Imo State, I met a moribund state, a state that was in distress. A state, I can even say, that was in the cemetery; I exhumed the body.

“Can you imagine a state where I came as the governor and everybody absconded? No handover note. There was no compass for me to navigate the aircraft.”

“When I came to Imo State, I encountered a state in a state of decay. I can even say it was in the cemetery; I had to revive it.”

He described the state as being in distress, with no handover note and a lack of guidance for governance. The governor explained that he had to gather information from both official and unofficial sources to establish a nominal roll.

Uzodimma further highlighted his efforts to revitalize the civil service, create a payroll system, and initiate the rehabilitation of dilapidated infrastructure. He emphasized the significant infrastructure deficit, including non-motorable roads and dysfunctional hospitals, which he has been addressing since assuming office.
