President Bola Tinubu has stated that candidates who refuse to accept defeat in previous general elections should not experience the satisfaction of victory in future polls. In his Democracy Day Nationwide Broadcast, the President acknowledged the highly contested nature of the 2023 presidential election and attributed its outcome to the progress of democracy in the country.

Tinubu emphasized that the essence of democracy lies in the fact that today’s winners may become tomorrow’s losers, while those who lose today have the opportunity to compete and triumph in subsequent rounds.

“The beauty of democracy is that those who win election today can lose tomorrow and those who lose today will have an opportunity to compete and win in the next round, he said

He highlighted that those who disagree with election results are currently utilizing the constitutional provisions to seek legal remedies, which is a testament to the strength of democracy as the best form of government devised by mankind. The President acknowledged the natural disappointment expressed by politicians who were not favored by the outcomes of the February and March elections.
