If you are unprepared to raise children, it is best not to have any – Anambra First Lady, Nonye Soludo says vices plaguing society stem from flawed family foundation

The first lady of Anambra State, Nonye Soludo, has attributed the prevalence of societal problems and wrongdoing to neglectful families and a lack of parental care. In observance of the 2023 International Day of Families, which was organized by the Anambra State Ministry of Health in conjunction with the State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare, the governor’s wife conveyed her opinion on Friday, May 26, in Awka. She advised individuals against having children if they are unable to provide proper guidance and training for them.

Mrs. Soludo emphasized that numerous vices plaguing our society today stem from a flawed family foundation, as parents are preoccupied with other matters and fail to prioritize the upbringing of their children. Due to the absence of parental care, children resort to criminal activities such as robbery, cultism, drug addiction, exam fraud, hooliganism, thuggery, gambling, smoking, rape, and more.

“It is imperative that we prioritize the nurturing of our children and place our families at the forefront. The betterment of society begins with the family,” she remarked.

Expressing her disappointment, Mrs. Soludo condemned parents who relinquish their children to serve as domestic helpers, as well as guardians who mistreat or abuse these vulnerable children.

“It is disheartening to witness parents shying away from their responsibilities and subjecting their children to strangers who mistreat and abuse them. If you are unprepared to raise children, it is best not to have any. However, if you do decide to have children, ensure you can provide for them adequately and raise them to become responsible members of society. I also urge women to cease mistreating and abusing their house helps. Show them love and treat them as if they were your own children,” she urged.
