NANS calls out presidency over alleged unlawful arrest and maltreatment of student over tweet about the First Lady
The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS has raised an alarm over the alleged torture of Aminu Adamu Mohammed, a student of the Federal University Dutse Jigawa who was arrested and detained by the Nigeria Police over a tweet accusing the wife of the President of feeding fat on poor people’s money.
Aminu was reportedly arrested and detained on the instruction of the First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari and also sustained some injuries.
Reacting to this, the student body in a statement by it’s President, Usman Umar Barambu said despite sustaining injuries, Aminu Aminu has no access to proper medical attention where he is being detained at the Wuse Zone 2, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja
The statement reads, “On 18th November 2022, the police from Abuja tracked Aminu to the Federal University Dutse and picked him up without any written/verbal invitation or informing the school management or his family.
“Aminu was taken straight to the presidential villa and he was allegedly brutalized, beaten, maltreated and humiliated by the Police on the orders of Haj. Aisha Buhari, after which he was unlawfully detained in a police facility at Wuse Zone II to date.
“I with our team of lawyers met with Aminu at the police facility and he confirmed the incident to me. Until now, Aminu has not been arraigned by any competent court of law or granted bail by the police.
“We want, on behalf of all the Nigerian Students to tender our unreversed apology to the First Lady, Aisha Buhari for the actions of AMINU ADAMU MOHAMMED which might have caused her and her family pains. However, as leaders and public officeholders, we must overlook some criticism if we want to really forge ahead and do the right thing.
“We demand a detailed explanation by the Nigeria Police why they will go to school premises and “kidnap” a student without due process and take him straight to the Presidential Villa where he was brutalized, which violates his Fundamental Human Rights”.
they have misplaced there priorities………
