‘We will work so in the end we can finally call Nigeria the four-time African champions’ – Peseiro vows to bring success to Super Eagles
New Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro has outlined his ambition with the team, promising to make the team successful again.
The Portuguese tactician was recently confirmed the new head coach of the three-time African champions ahead of three other coaches; Ernesto Valverde, Philip Cocu and Laurent Blanc.
Peseiro, 60, is expected to take charge of the Super Eagles for the first time when they take on the El Tri of Mexico in an international friendly at the AT &T Stadium, Arlington, Texas on Saturday, May 28
The Super Eagles will also play Ecuador in another friendly at the Red Bull Arena, Harrison on June 2.
His first assignment will be to qualify the Super Eagles for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
He has stated that he is confident the Super Eagles can win the next AFCON.
”Pride! It is with great pride and joy that I am the coach of one of the greatest football nations in the world. Commanding the Super Eagles starts with knowing how to respect history, value it and be inspired by its roots,”Peseiro wrote on his Twitter handle
“Over 200 million Nigerians, from all states and ethnicities, want the same thing: success.
“We will work with great ambition, so that in the end we can finally call Nigeria the “four-time African champions@ng_supereagles .”
Nigeria will host the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone in a 2023 AFCON qualifier at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Thursday, June 9.
The West Africans will take on the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau in a matchday two fixture on Monday, June 13.
