If you know anything about African mothers, you know that their packaging is epic. They will never miss an opportunity to pray with you or preach to you. The mother of Nigerian- American rapper Tobe Nwigwe is no different.
During Tobe’s recent concert at The Novo in downtown Los Angeles, he called his mother out and in typical Naija mom style, she rained down motivation and prayer on the hip-hop loving fans who cheered and clapped as she spoke. He also brought her out at his concert in Houston. He asked her to share a word of wisdom with the people. She encouraged and prayed while ending her exhortation by thanking the crowd for supporting her son.

Tobechukwu Dubem “Tobe” Nwigwe (born March 8, 1987), is an Nigerian-American rapper and singer. He is from the Alief neighborhood of Houston, Texas. He is married to Martika “Fat” Nwigwe with children, Ivory “Baby Fat”Nwigwe, Sage Nwigwe, and Chukwueze Nwigwe.
Nwigwe is of Nigerian descent and of Igbo extraction. He played high school football and then college football at the University of North Texas. He was being considered for draft by the NFL. However, a Lisfranc ligament tear left him unable to continue to play football. He then founded the nonprofit TeamGINI, a name derived from “Gini Bu Nkpa Gi?” which translates to “What’s your trouble?” in Igbo language. TeamGINI aims to help families in need by giving them gifts that aid them in gaining financial literacy and independence. After encouragement from the motivational speaker Eric Thomas, Nwigwe began focusing on music in earnest.
His music has garnered a lot of attention, including Michelle Obama, who put his song “I’m Dope” on her workout playlist. In 2020, Nwigwe went viral on digital platforms for his song “I Need You To (Breonna Taylor)”. He said God gave him a vision to do the song as a public service announcement
that is the power of motherhood….
