Gov Makinde confirms killing of #EndSARS protester in Ogbomosho
Governor Seyi Makinde has confirmed the killing of an EndSARS protester, Jimoh Isiaka, in Ogbomosho, Oyo state today, October 10.
Read his statement reacting to the killing below
I have received with deep sadness the news of the passing of one of our children, Jimoh Isiaka, who was shot during the ENDSARS protest in Ogbomoso. He later died at Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, earlier today.
Also, at this same protest, Abdulrasaq Olawale, Oluwadamilare Gbolohunmi, and five other persons sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
This situation is highly regrettable. I have contacted the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, Nwachukwu Enwonwu, and other relevant agencies, and investigations into what led to the unfortunate incident are still ongoing. I pray that God grants the parents of Jimoh Isiaka the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.
The ENDSARS protests are a strong indicator of a systemic failure. It is a failure on the part of those who have been constitutionally empowered to protect the citizens. It again calls into question why State Governors are called Chief Security Officers of their state whereas, they do not have the necessary powers to control the police force.
I will be paying a personal visit to the family of Jimoh Isiaka and I promise to pursue the investigations to a logical conclusion.
Peaceful protests are a big part of our democratic process. The right to freedom of speech and assembly are guaranteed by our Constitution, and I will never support any attempt to rob citizens of their fundamental human rights.
I call on all residents of Oyo State to please remain calm. I also call on the Police to allow residents of Oyo State protest peacefully without fear of being assaulted.
Again, I express my deepest sympathies to the family of Jimoh Isiaka, may his soul rest in peace.
Amen may his soul rest in peace, but your Excellency sir, governor seyi makinde, what surprised me is that I taught you can control the commissioner of police in your state to address him not to show any hamful to the citizen of oyo state, like how Mr sanwo olu did on Lagos??? Sanwo olu told his commissioner of police not to harm anybody and he should control his police member. Why can’t you do the same thing as sanwo olu??? All the same I see your feeling and sympathy for the lost…. Jimoh isiake may your soul rest in peace.
May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace
May Almighty Allah forgive jimoh isiaka and give his family heart to bear his departure. Sir your exellency I want you to do proper investigation to who is behind the seen. If it’s police that means they already gone. One yoruba proverbs says…”ENITI AFESUNJE TONFI EPOPARA.
This country is not a banana republic at all where the so called useless security officials will be behaving as they like
They should act with caution and by the dictates of the law and constitution
For the fact that they are carrying guns officially does not give them the impetus to act as if they are above the law
Enough of this their nonsense. Why should they use live bullets on the protesters that are peaceful
They should not force the masses to carry this protest to another level that they will all run away
Why killing the peaceful protester nah what was his crime or was the protest a violent one?
Rest In Peace Jimoh Isiaka.
I want to ask , is protest no longer our rights as citizens under this administration?
Rest in peace jimoh isiaka, the police should be kill to,why some people don’t value others life.
Enough Of This Their Nonsense. Why Should They Use Live Bullets On The Protesters That Are Peaceful
They Should Not Force The Masses To Carry This Protest To Another Level That They Will All Run Away
For The Fact That They Are Carrying Guns Officially Does Not Give Them The Impetus To Act As If They Are Above The Law
It is a pity he lost his life in the cause of this SARS menace, may his soul rest in peace.
Our security agencies are just behaving like god which nobody can query them regardless of whatever they do. The issue of killing innocent Nigerians are becoming unbearable in the hands of those called security, can’t express our grievances with protest anymore? They don’t know the gravity offence of killing innocent people in the hand of God because if they do, they won’t embark on killing people like chicken.
Nigeria is a lawless country because if not police won’t be killing her citizens like goat without any actions been taking by their leaders and Even Mr. President too. IGP is watching them this is so pathetic. They shouldn’t allow Nigerians to take law into their hands before taking drastic steps.
A lots of things have wrong with the Constitution of Nigeria because I’m always wondering that you call a sitting governor chief security of the state and can’t control or give directive to the commissioner of the state, this is so bad. That’s why we are calling for restructuring. It’s only federal government can give directive on any security agencies. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
May God protect our youth from these scrupulous elements parading themselves as security personnel.
