45-year-old rescued by Nigerian Police from committing suicide, gives reason
45-year-old Adeyinka Abiodun has been rescued by the Nigerian Police from committing suicide on third mainland bridge.
Adeyinka tried to kill himself over a debt of N500,000 he was owing a Microfinance bank.
According to reports, he had collected a N390,000 loan from a microfinance bank in March, with the intent to upgrade his wine retail business, but the business failed and the money not recoverable. The loan has exceeded N500,000 with accrued interests.
The Lagos police spokesperson, Bala Elkana in a statement on Sunday said he was intercepted by operatives deployed to Third Mainland Bridge while attempting to jump into the lagoon around 1:35 p.m. on Friday.
The victim is currently attending medical and counselling sessions.
The loan, however, was repaid by the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was moved with compassion after hearing the story, Elkana added.
Suicide is not the next option. Thank God for your life.
