Governor Wike makes U-turn, rescinds permission he earlier granted for Easter celebration in churches
Governor Nyesom Wike has reversed the permission he granted earlier for some religious activities to hold in churches and mosques in the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paulinus Nsirim said the decision was taken after the Rivers State Governor held a meeting with eminent clergy, well-meaning Nigerians and civil society groups.
The statement released by the commissioner reads;
The Rivers State Government has cancelled the concession granted churches to hold Easter Church Services with their full congregations.
This decision was taken after due consultations with eminent clergy men, well-meaning Nigerians and civil society groups.
For the avoidance of doubt, churches should stick to the 50 persons per service to maintain social distancing.
