There is no escaping the consequences of bad governance – Oby Ezekwesili
Former Minister for education, Oby Ezekwesili has related the fire outbreak at the famous Onitsha Market as the consequence of bad governance saying no matter what we citizens choose to do, there is no escaping the consequences of bad governance.
She grieved with the various families who had lost one thing or the other especially the lives of their loved ones as she also lambasted the Governor for not investing in a well equipped, highly professional State fire service.
Her words:
There’s no escaping the consequences of #PoorGovernance no matter what any of us as Citizens choose to do.
My heart has been grieving the utterly preventable tragedy of the #OnitshaFire and how families have lost lives and livelihood just because the Basics were not available.
How can an old City like Onitsha with a history of fire outbreaks not have a Basic Emergency and Disaster Response System?
How woeful it is that episodes like this occur over and over again and all we do is feel sad for a few days and move on leaving the Victims to their fate.
How was it that the government of @Gov_Obiano who himself had to cut short a visit to Abuja to return to Anambra after one of such incidents just some two years ago, did not invest in a well-equipped and highly professional State Fire Service?
Why was no lesson learned then?
Mba.
The slippage on this #OnitshaFire is quite hard to bear because of this unwillingness to “Learn Lessons from previous tragedies. There is a deep flaw in our Governance system makes officials impervious to “Learning Lessons. This just must change starting immediately.
Ndoooonu, umunnneanyi na umunnaanyi. Ndonu o. Oka nku bu ife nka. Ndonu ooo.
I have as your fellow citizen written to the @Gov_Obiano on a number of measures necessary to be taken.
Such failure must not be allowed on Repeat dial.
Mbanu. Ozoemezina.
Ndoonu. 🙏🏾
